The short answer. Ask about registration, experience, your options including doing nothing, the risks, the full cost, aftercare and what happens if you are unhappy. You should never feel rushed.
You are allowed to take your time
Booking a consultation is not a promise to go ahead with anything. It is a conversation. Here are questions that help you get the most from it.
About the practitioner
- What is your profession and are you registered with AHPRA? Can I have your registration number? (Here is how to check.)
- How much experience do you have in the area I am asking about?
- Who will I see at each visit?
About your plan
- What are my options, including doing nothing?
- What are the risks and possible side effects? (See risks and aftercare.)
- What is the full cost, including any follow up? (See what affects cost.)
- What happens if I am not happy or if something goes wrong?
About your health
- Will you take my full health history, including medications, supplements and allergies?
- Is there anything about my health that means I should wait?
Signs to slow down
Be cautious if you feel rushed, if a decision is pushed on the same day, if risks are brushed aside, or if you are not asked about your health. Walking away to think about it is always fine.
Bring a list
Write your questions on your phone beforehand. It is easy to forget them once you are in the room. If you would like to talk to Rachel first, you can send a message or book a consultation.
