The short answer. Search the AHPRA register of practitioners by name or registration number. You should see their profession, that their registration is current, and any conditions on it.
Why it matters
In Australia, nurses, doctors and other regulated health professionals must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, known as AHPRA. Registration means they have met national standards and are accountable to a professional board. It is the first thing worth confirming before any cosmetic treatment appointment. Our guide on who can perform cosmetic treatments in Australia explains why.
How to check, step by step
- Search for "AHPRA register of practitioners" and open the official AHPRA website.
- Type the practitioner's name, or their registration number if they have shared it.
- Open the result and check the profession (for example, Registered Nurse) and that the registration is current.
- Look for any conditions or notations listed against the registration.
A practitioner who is proud of their registration will be happy to give you their number. You can find Rachel's on the About page.
What if I cannot find them?
Ask politely. Names can differ from the one used by a business, and a number is the quickest way to confirm. If you still cannot confirm that someone is registered, it is reasonable to pause and ask more questions before going ahead.
Registered does not mean right for you
Registration is the starting point, not the whole picture. A good practitioner will also take your health history, explain the risks, talk through the costs and give you time to decide. Our list of questions to ask before a cosmetic consultation covers what to look for next.
